News from !Khwa ttu’s Guides

At !Khwa ttu, our guides are lifelong learners. Through ongoing training and unique learning opportunities, they continue to expand their knowledge, ready to give every guest an authentic and memorable experience. And it’s certainly been a busy few months for the guiding team!

First up, one of our longest-standing guides, Nashada Ndango, recently spent three weeks at the renowned Boomplaas archaeological site, having been invited by New York University’s Professor of Archaeology Justin Pargeter. Working alongside specialists and researchers, she gained hands-on experience in excavation, archive cataloguing, and archaeological conservation while deepening her understanding of Southern Africa’s history and the cultural significance of ochre in San traditions.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, Nashada has also recently completed an intensive Mandarin language programme offered through the South African Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Chinese government. After completing HSK Levels 1 and 2, she was selected for a three-week cultural immersion programme in China. Today, she can confidently welcome Chinese visitors in their own language, helping them to feel at home while sharing the rich stories of San culture.

Meanwhile, guides Roman, Matios, and Kerson recently completed their Astronomy Guiding Training through the Field Guides Association of South Africa (FGASA). This practical course equipped them with the skills to interpret the African night sky, adding another fascinating layer to the experiences we offer our guests.

These opportunities reflect !Khwa ttu’s commitment to investing in our people. Every new skill our guides gain strengthens their ability to connect visitors with the remarkable heritage, landscapes and stories of the San, ensuring every visit is enriched by knowledge, passion and authentic cultural exchange. We can’t wait for you to hear their stories from the Guides themselves!
