!Khwa ttu is a non-profit organisation that seeks to redress the deep disadvantages San have experienced. We strive to restore dignity and cultural pride, while navigating a practical path between the old ways and the new world. We are committed to the preservation of traditional knowledge and the development of skills to equip San to thrive in the modern world.
The San have remarkable attributes, skills, and knowledge. Understanding their history – which is our shared history – reminds us of who we are.

Do you live close by? Our Local Friends membership gives you access to a variety of !Khwa ttu’s on-site benefits, so that we can keep welcoming you home. By becoming a Local Friend, you will support !Khwa ttu’s work, plus:

Membership for 2 adults and 2 children aged 6-16. Note: Under 6s go free!
Join NowMemberships last for one year. Adult = 18+. Be sure to show your card at Reception to grant you access to the site! If you already have a !Khwa ttu loyalty card, you can switch over to the new programme immediately or wait until your annual renewal. *Overnight experiences must be redeemed within a year of receipt and cannot be exchanged (but they can be gifted!)

Whether near or far, our Best Friends fuel the work we do at !Khwa ttu. Your support goes directly to our training, conservation, and cultural preservation programmes. If you are passionate about our mission to share the way of the San, we would love you to join our circle of champions. Do you live a little (or a long) way away? Become a Far-away Friend to stay in the loop with all things !Khwa ttu. Membership is free with a valid e-mail address.

How long does my membership last?
Local Friend & Best Friend memberships last for one year from the date of purchase. Far-away Friends last forever!
Does my membership automatically renew?
Our memberships are not subscriptions, so they will not renew automatically and you will not be charged without re-purchasing. To renew, look out for an e-mail from us near the end of your annual membership.
Can I share my membership with someone else?
One membership per person, unless you are signing up as Friends with Benefits or a Best Friends Couple, which extends benefits to two people. For Local Friends, each individual will be asked to present their own card upon arrival.
Is there a limit to the number of times I can visit !Khwa ttu within the year?
No! You are welcome home whenever you feel like, with unlimited access to our trails, Restaurant and Heritage Centre Museums.
I’m only visiting the area for a short time and want to use the trails. Is there a shorter membership option for a lower fee?
We currently don’t offer reduced memberships, but you are welcome to explore our trails for a daily fee of R150. But remember, being a Friend means being part of something bigger & might even be a wiser investment!
What is a “special function” and how can I get access?
As a Best Friend, you will be granted exclusive access to unique venues at !Khwa ttu (e.g. the Boma on the hill, special trail & picnic spots) for your special moments (e.g., birthday parties, anniversaries, even proposals!). Please talk to us well in advance so we can work with you to create an unforgettable San experience.
How can I claim my return offer for becoming a Far-away Friend?
If you have stayed with us within the last 12 months, let us know directly that you have signed up as a Far-away Friend and we will extend our exclusive return offer via the e-mail address you provided.
What will you use my e-mail address for?
We will keep your e-mail address in our Friends database and use it to share the latest news and stories from !Khwa ttu. You can unsubscribe from our e-mail newsletter at any time. We promise not to bombard you and we certainly won’t share your e-mail address!
I don’t want to become a Friend but I still want to support !Khwa ttu. How can I do this?
- We always welcome one-off donations and are grateful for your support. You can donate via www.givengain.com or at the !Khwa ttu Reception.
- If you are South African or a regular SA visitor, you can also support us for free by making !Khwa ttu one of your Woolworths My School Beneficiaries. To learn more, ask at Reception or visit www.myschool.co.za.
