Angolan Visit
Reconnecting with the ‘lost’ San communities
From the 2nd to the 16th June, the Heritage Centre team travelled to Angola to visit six San communities across two provinces, Huíla in the north and Cunene in the south. This was the first time the team had met these communities, and the aim was thus simple: to see, to listen, and to learn. How did the San (in remote and isolated Angola) live? What knowledge did they carry? How did they survive, what did they eat, and what tools did they use? The answers were fascinating; from farming and foraging, to shared work and waterpoints, much was learned about these ‘lost’ San communities. The team can’t wait to share their fresh knowledge and new perspectives back to the !Khwa ttu community.
