New Ways – New Hope
In June our museum curator, Magdalena Lukas, visited the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology to consult with staff about co-curating an exhibition at the !Khwa ttu San Heritage Centre, based on photographs from the Marshall Family Collection.
The photographs, donated in 2001, document the expeditions of Laurence and Lorna Marshall to Namibia, Botswana, Angola, and South Africa from 1950-1961.
Magdalena speaks about the partnership “It was such a great privilege to work with the Peabody team, their dedication, care and respect for the Marshall collection filled me with gratitude and assured me that it will be well kept for future generations to come. My hope is that more San people will have the opportunity to be part of similar consultations in future. I am grateful for the community engagement by the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology.”
HUGE thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this groundbreaking trip happen.
