Our trip to Cape Town
It was cloudy and warm at 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning. We, the trainees had prepared our trip well and on time. We were nine people: seven trainee guides, Mr. Axel, who teaches us botany and Ivan, our tour advisor.
We went on our journey in the !Khwa ttu mini bus. About 15 km away from !Khwa ttu we came across a bad accident. We heard some people saying that five people were trapped in the car, but fortunately they were still alive. We decided to take a detour and continued with our journey. We arrived safely in Cape Town but because of the accident much later than planned.
I have been to Gaborone, the capital of my country but it was my first day in a real huge city. I was very surprised to see such tall buildings so near to big Table Mountain. I also saw the white clouds nicely moving around and around the mountain. When we came to the entrance of the Water Front the large glass doors just opened by themselves. The escalator made one of my fellow trainees afraid but when he saw that we all followed Mr. Axel he also carefully put his foot on the steps of the escalator. It looked really funny and we all laughed.
I also watched the big ships and how the people cleaned one of them in the dry dock. When we were wondering how it got in there Mr Axel explained that the ship was pulled into the dock when it was filled with water and that the water was pumped out when the maintenance work began.
We then walked over to the Two Oceans Aquarium because at 12 o’clock the fish were fed and we wanted to watch that. It was wonderful; we saw sharks, jelly fish, prawns and crabs. Some of them came out of caves. I had never seen a fish sleeping but Mr. Axel pointed out the places where they sleep. A lady working for the aquarium used a microphone so that everyone could hear her explanations about the feeding of the fish. There were many people, also a lot of children watching the feeding, which was very interesting.
When we went to the next floor we discovered many types of frogs. They had many colours, there were green and black frogs, which were poison and there were also red frogs which looked like someone had put paint on them.
On our way to the Botanical Garden we saw the new stadium where the Soccer World Cup will soon take place. At the Kirstenbosch Garden we ate our picnic sitting on the grass. After that we went around and looked at the beautiful trees, bushes and flowers. We learned about some of the trees and I walked with my friends Magdalena and Elrico near Table Mountain.
I will never in my whole life forget this trip because the way the person feeding the fish was himself swimming like a fish and the way the fish came to him on their own to get some food was very, very interesting for me.
