August 2009 Newsletter
Relaxed, yet energetic we, the ! Khwa ttu team has just returned from leave.
However, we have not forgotten about all the exciting and rewarding tasks with which the months before our annual break had been filled. In May 2009, Baba Festus represented the San’s regional advocacy organization, the Working Group of Indigenous Minorities (WIMSA) at the eighth session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York. In the same month Michael Daiber und André Vaalbooi promoted !Khwa ttu at the Tourism Indaba in Durban. In June, a nine-month !Khwa ttu training programme for eight trainee guides ended and employment opportunities were sought for the seven San, who had successfully completed their training. In addition, the trail of medicinal and other useful fynbos plants was further developed, reports were written, film crews were advised and the first animated brainstorming sessions on a new !Khwa ttu business plan were held.
The articles of this edition of our !Khwa ttu Newsletter will provide further details on some of the events.
